Motivation
Our decision to design and construct a six degree of freedom soft-touch robotic arm was motivated by a desire to create a practical senior project. Inspired by robots used in many industries, including healthcare and clean room manufacturing, we elected to take these robotic arms one step further through incorporation of haptic feedback.
Another goal of this project was to showcase the broad range of skills which we have developed while studying at Berkeley. Through the processes of conceptualization, design, assembly, and final coding, we were required to complete tasks ranging from needs assessment, static and dynamic load analyses, design for manufacturing, machining, troubleshooting, and finally arduino coding, to name but a few.
